Comfort Therapy - Pet Therapy
Pet therapy is an alternative to over-medicating people with dementia; one that is being used successfully in many settings, including residential.
Many of us had pets throughout our lives, and know having them around was often the best remedy when we needed our spirits lifted. Pet Therapy is growing in popularity as a non-pharmacological aid to help people cope with all manner of health issues, from cancer to Alzheimer's disease. Animals are even used to enhance end of life care.
Unfortunately, living animals can't always be incorporated into a care program. Though not truly alive, these pets can lend a lot of joy and comfort.
