Music for the Mind and Heart
Both of my parents died of Alzheimer's disease. I had no idea that watching their frustration and decline would inspire me to conceive of and create the Music for the Mind and Heart DVD.
My father died first at the age or 82 in 1999.... My mother's mental decline...began a few years before my father died and continued to her death in November of 2007. Sadly I (eventually) had to accept the fact that she needed full-time professional care and I placed her in a nursing facility that specialized in Alzheimer's and dementia care.
While I couldn't cure her condition, one thing that I could do that brought her comfort was to play the piano. The room where I played... contained a big screen TV. Occasionally I would find a nature oriented program and that would be on screen (with the sound turned down) while I played. I began to notice that the patients particularly enjoyed and seemed to benefit from the combination of the music I was playing and the imagery of nature that they were seeing on TV. Watching their faces I knew this combination had a therapeutic power that was providing them with comfort, tranquility and emotional grounding.

The DVD is a 30 minute presentation of mood-enhancing imagery created to provide a comforting and harmonious atmosphere to soothe and relax those suffering from Alzheimer's and dementia. What you hear and see now (above) is just a short sampling.
With heartfelt original piano compositions and unique orchestrations of familiar classical pieces combined with award-winning nature photography, the DVD is a natural mood-enhancer. Viewing Music for the Mind and Heart provides reality therapy as well by maintaining a connection to the wonders of nature. The universal human response to nature's beauty is a sense of spiritual connectedness to the environment and the natural world.
The slow moving, still images give the Alzheimer's patient time to comprehend what they are seeing and not become confused, and the melodic music creates a restful, calming atmosphere.
