Beautifully Crafted Wooden Objects
There is often a reluctance to give children's toys to loved ones with dementia. To many it seems demeaning for an adult who has raised a family, had a career, and made it to his or her golden years, to be "playing" with "kid toys".
This is an understandable concern. Always look for cues when you give the person in your care a new activity. If she indicates, verbally or non-verbally, that she feels it is demeaning, don't use that particular activity now. We are always on the lookout for activities for Bernice that are both age- and stage-appropriate. Some of the things she enjoys most are toys designed for children. She calls them adult toys.

The important thing is that she is active and stimulated.
The wooden "toys" in this category are well designed and expertly crafted, and will provide stage-appropriate activity for people with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. It is always more of a challenge to find activities for men than for women. These will be especially appreciated by men who worked with their hands; carpenters and craftsmen, engineers, etc.
